La defensa que hace de la Iglesia Católica es muy interesante. No se lo merece, porque ésta está ahora a favor de la construcción de mezquitas:

El parlamento italiano votará en enero un polémico proyecto de ley -presentado por la Liga Norte- que pretende someter a unos estrictos requisitos la construcción de mezquitas en el país. El portavoz de la liga federalista (aliada de Berlusconi) en la Cámara de los Diputados y autor del texto, Roberto Cota, anticipa que su partido pedirá una moratoria para la construcción de nuevas mezquitas hasta que el plan sea sometido a voto.

-Sabe que les lloverán críticas desde todos los sectores. ¿Cómo se defenderán?

-La realidad es que nacen centros culturales y mezquitas como setas, así que no tenemos necesidad de defendernos. Quienes nos critican deben recuperar el sentido de realidad; no se dan cuenta de lo que pasa alrededor. No se trata de racismo o de discriminación religiosa, sino de mejorar una situación que se ha vuelto insostenible porque no hay reglas y estos centros crecen sin control.

-¿Qué es lo que proponen?

-Nosotros pedimos reglas: autorización de la construcción por parte de la región, un referéndum en cada lugar donde se quiere construir, saber de dónde vendrá la financiación, que se alejen a más de un kilómetro de otras construcciones religiosas etc. Si un ciudadano italiano quiere iniciar una actividad tiene que pagar sus impuestos, ¿porqué ellos no?

-La Iglesia católica no paga impuestos…

-Sí, pero la Iglesia católica pertenece a nuestra cultura. Además, el problema de los musulmanes es que no sólo predican sino que tienen colegios y mercadillos en el exterior de las mezquitas, como sucede en Milán. Además en el texto se lee que el idioma de las mezquitas tiene que ser el italiano.

-Pero la Iglesia católica permite las misas en latín.

-A ver, los versos en árabe se quedan en árabe, pero la explicación tiene que ofrecerse en italiano, así como todas las actividades tienen que ser en este idioma. El problema es el de siempre: se quiere igualar la religión católica al islam. Que quede claro que no somos un «partido católico», pero los principios católicos son patrimonio de nuestra comunidad. No pueden estar al mismo nivel el Crucifijo y el Corán. Lo más sorprendente es que ellos defienden sus tradiciones, y nosotros no. Vamos, que en muchos países islámicos no nos dejan levantar una iglesia, y nosotros les tenemos que dejar hacer de todo. Lo que no pueden pretender es que sus reglas se conviertan en las nuestras.

-El debate a nivel europeo sobre la construcción de mezquitas pone en evidencia que pueden ser focos terroristas.

-Y así es. No son centros de culto, se convierten en centros políticos, y ahí está el peligro, como se ha demostrado.

-Visitando algunas mezquitas, todas las personas con las que he hablado tachan a la Liga Norte de racista.

-No es verdad, somos los únicos que defendemos nuestra identidad. El mundo moderno se construyó en base a unas reglas, no veo por qué ellos no las tienen que respetar. Más que nada porque la única forma de convivir es respetando las leyes.

-Pero cuando la mayor parte del mundo político critica sus propuestas, algo pasa.

-Son miopes. La clase política actual es miope, lejana de la realidad que vive la gente, por eso la Lega tiene tantos votos. Viven en otro mundo y no se dan cuenta de los problemas reales de la gente. Además, la población con esta ley podrá expresar su opinión a través de un referéndum, decidiendo si se debe construir o no una mezquita. Vivimos un momento histórico particular, con las oleadas de inmigración. O nos rendimos y dejamos que de alguna forma nos «dominen» cancelando nuestra identidad, o ponemos nosotros las reglas.
